Here is a guide on how YOU can add blog posts to the homepage of the ZCC website. The site is open for all to contribute and is very simple to do so.

Please note, if you’d like to add blog posts, when you first register please email us, asking to upgraded your membership. This so as we don’t get automated spam postings. The more content added by a more diverse group of people, the more vibrant our site will become. This guide is one in a series designed to help you get the best from the site, see here, for more.

You can see description on the official wordpress site as to how to add a blog post or you can follow my instructions below, both work.

Once you’ve logged in (click here if you don’t know how to log in) go to the top left of the page and hover over “blog” and click “New news post”;

Then you’re presented with a text boxes;

The first box is for the title and the second is for the text

You simply need to add the text. The first box is for the title and the second is for the text. Don’t worry about changing fonts etc, this will be done for you. If you have some specific fonts or editing that you’d like to do, click the “paragraph” tab or any of the common tabs to make the text bold, indented underlined etc.

You can now publish your post;

Publish, preview and save draft

chose to “publish”, “save draft” or “preview” what you’ve written by clicking the buttons on the top right of your page, but before you do add key search words in the tags section;these are words that can help people search for related articles. Also select the correct category;

both adding “tags” and selecting which “category” to put your post in can be done through the buttons on the right hand side of the page.

Remember once you’ve published a document or saved it, you can update it at any point.

If you’d like to add images or videos. There is an option at the top left of the toolbar “add media”. Hover over the options and click the media type you’d like to add. You’re then presented with the following page;

Click "select files"

Click “select files” and chose the image from your computer. If the image is stored at “URL” or in the “media library” click the relevant tab and select the image. Once the image has bee selected you’ll be presented with this page;

You can also add “link URL”

Then chose the size and location of the image and click “insert into post”

Once you’ve added the text and images that you want. Use the menu bar on the right to “publish”, “preview” or “save draft”.

Once a blog post has been published you can easily edit or delete it;

click "magage news posts" to edit or delete a page you've published

Click “manage news posts” at the top left handside of the ZCC web page.

That’s all you need to add blog posts to the ZCC website. A quick tip to better format the way the posts sit on the homepage.

1. Add an image, if you want on that is. In the settings make it a “thumbnail” image and justifying it to the “left” of the page is easier for this purpose.

2. Add about a 100 words of text and

3 Then click “insert more” tag. This tag means that only what’s above it will be shown on the home page. People can then click a link to view the full article. The “insert more” tag looks like this;

4. You can then add the rest of your article below the “insert more” line

1. First of all, enter your username and password in the boxes at the top right of the page. (If you don’t already have a username and password, we’re going to cover how to get them in a future article, but feel free to click the ‘Signup’ button and go it alone if you like!) Next, click the ‘Log In’ button.

2. Assuming you correctly entered your username and password, the next thing you’ll see in the top right is your name with a little picture next to it (called an avatar), and a link which you can click to log back out when you’ve finished. If you see these things, congratulations, you’ve logged in.

3. Now, to add a comment to an article, click on the comments link at the bottom of the news item. It will say something like ‘No comments’, or ‘10 comments’.

4. And last but not least, it’s time to write your comment! Fill in the box with your thoughts and replies to previous comments, then simply click Submit Comment. If you’d like to know whenever anyone else comments on this post, simply tick the ‘Notify me of follow up comments by email’ box and you’ll get a brief email each time there is a response. Simple!

This site has some similar features to Base Camp, but rather than needing to login to see what’s happening and discussions going on, anyone can pop by and see the conversations. You’ll still need to login to take part, but that’s quick and easy using the boxes in the top right.
